Set 2018 Off on the Right Foot

Bunion & Hammertoe Treatment Santa Rosa, CAA new year can mean a lot of things. It can mean new opportunities, new challenges, and the ability to just start anew in whatever way you see fit. And although you can start 2018 off on the right foot, it may not be quite as easy if you suffer from foot conditions such as bunions or hammertoe. Luckily, here at Redwood Orthopaedic Associates, we have a few ways that we can help you find comfort and relief.

Bunion Removal

If there’s one thing to know about bunions, it’s that they’re painful and a nuisance. And although you can try your hand at some over the counter treatments, nothing will do quite the job as actually getting rid of the bunion itself. During bunion surgery, one of our orthopedic surgeons will perform one of three different types of bunion procedures including an exostectomy, osteotomy, or an arthrodesis.

  • Exostectomy: During this surgery, the surgeon will remove the bunion from your joint without realigning anything.
  • Osteotomy: This surgery involves cutting and realigning your big toe joint into a normal position.
  • Arthrodesis: This surgical procedure involves replacing your damaged joint with metal plates or screws.

Hammertoe

Although you can try some simple things like changing to larger shoes and wearing comfortable footwear to fix your hammertoe, sometimes surgery is necessary. During this type of surgery, an incision will be made over the top of the toe with the end goal of strengthening it. Depending on the severity of your condition, ligaments, tendons, and bones may be removed or cut to help reposition your toe.

If you want to get off on the right foot in 2018, make sure you take care of your feet. To learn more or to schedule your consultation, contact our Santa Rosa office today!
